After The Wave HDTV x264-W4F

After the Wave’ follows 33 year-old audio engineer Soshi Yamaguchi as he returns to his hometown in Miyagi Prefecture for the first time since the 2011 Japanese tsunami. Soshi is keen to assess the physical and emotional impact that the disaster has had on the community in which he grew up, experiencing for himself what has become of his hometown.
He drives with his mother through areas now engulfed by water and scrambles over the fragments of his friend’s home; everything previously so familiar now unrecognisable. Through Soshi’s eyes, the audience is given a glimpse into the situation being faced by so many Japanese people who are being forced to come to terms with the destruction of their birth places. ‘After the Wave’ is a unique personal journey into one such Japanese community, as we experience Soshi’s journey back to the place he calls home.
