Özet: Crain ailesi 1992 yazında Tepedeki Ev (Hill House) olarak bilinen köşke taşınırlar. Hugh ve eşi Olivia Crain, çocukları Steven, Shirley, Theodora (Theo), Luke ve Eleanor (Nell) ile evde pek de huzurlu olmayan şekilde yaşamaya çalışmaktadırlar. Çocuklar evden ve evin dışından garip sesler duyar hatta korkunç görüntüler görmeye başlar ki bunların çoğu paranormaldir. Her ne kadar evden gitmek isteseler de evin satılabilmesi için Hugh ve Olivia’nın tamir tadilat işlerini bitirmeleri gerekmektedir. Ama paranormal olaylar giderek artmaya başlar ve bir gece çok büyük bir trajedi yaşandıktan sonra Hugh çocukları yanına alarak evi terk eder. Aradan tam 26 yıl geçer. Ailenin en küçüğü Nell bile artık bir yetişkin olmuştur. Ama hiçbiri Tepedeki Ev’de yaşadıklarından tam anlamıyla kurtulamamıştır. Sadece Steven yaşananlara uzak kalmış hatta bu anılarla ilgili kitap yazarak bu trajediden para kazanmaya bile çalışmıştır. Steven, Tepedeki Ev’de son gece yaşananlar dışında herhangi bir paranormal olaya tanık olmadığı için anlatılanları hiçbir zaman pek de ciddiye almamıştır. Fakat artık onun için de uyanma zamanı gelmiştir. Ne yazık ki bu uyanma başka bir trajediyle gelir. Bakalım bu trajedi dağılmış Crain ailesini, yaşadıklarıyla ve korkularıyla yüzleşmeye götürebilecek midir?
