Özet: Luther, Idris Elba'nın John Luther isimli Dedektif Başmüfettişi oynadığı, İngiliz yapımı psikolojik bir suç-drama televizyon dizisidir. Altı bölümlük ilk sezon BBC One kanalında 4 Mayıs - 8 Haziran 2010 tarihleri arasında yayınlandı. Yine dört bölümlük ikinci sezonu BBC One kanalında izleyici ile buluştu. Dört bölümlük üçüncü sezonu ise 2-23 Temmuz 2013 tarihlerinde gösterildi. Elba, her sezon Altın Küre Ödüllerinde, En İyi Erkek Oyuncu Altın Küre Ödülü - Mini dizi/TV filmi kategorisinde aday gösterildi. 69. Altın Küre Ödüllerinde ise bu ödüle layık görülmüştür. Bu mini dizi ayrıca beş Emmy Ödülü adaylığı aldı. Dizi yaratıcısı Neil Cross, Luther'ın dördüncü sezon için televizyona geri dönmeyeceğini teyit etti. Bunun dışında bir sinema filmi olabileceğini de ekledi.
John Luther, ilk sezonda Ciddi Suçlar Biriminde (DCI) bir dedektif Başmüfettişidir. ikinci ve üçüncü sezonda ise Ciddi ve Seri Suçlar Biriminde yer almaktadır. Luther için iş her zaman önce gelir. Onun bu kendini adamışlığı kendisine ve yakınlarına hem nimet hem de bir lanettir. İlk bölümde Alice Morgan isimli katili yakalamayı başaramaz ve serinin geri kalan bölümlerinde, onu diğer suçluları yakalamak için bir motivasyon kaynağı ve sırdaşı olarak görecektir.
