Özet: Homeland manik depresyon hastası olan CIA ajanı Carrie Mathison’un hikayesini anlatıyor. Carrie sekiz yıldır kayıp olan ve artık öldüğü farz edilen Birleşik Devletler askeri Nicholas Brody’nin kurtarılmasını sağlayan istihbaratın bir tuzak olduğuna ve Amerika topraklarında gerçekleştirilecek bir El-Kaide komplosuyla bağlantılı olduğuna inanmaktadır...
CIA ajanı Carrie Mathison'ın Irak'taki ABD tehditleri üzerine alışılmışın dışındaki araştırması diplomatik bir soruna yol açar. Bunun üzerine Ajan Mathison, sahadan alınarak masa başı bir göreve atanır. Ancak soruşturması kesilmeden önce, Iraklı bir kaynağından Amerikalı bir esirin taraf değiştirdiğini öğrenir.
8 yıldır kayıp olan ve öldüğü düşünülen Çavuş Nicholas Brody, Afganistan'da yapılan özel bir operasyonda bir hücrede kilitli olarak bulunur ve kurtarılır. Çavuş Brody'nin dönüşünü, aldığı istihbarat ile ilişkilendiren Ajan Mathison, bu durumdan endişelenmeye başlar.
CIA, Brody'nin bir kahraman olduğunu düşünürken Ajan Mathison duruma şüpheyle yaklaşmaktadır. Ancak Brody'nin taraf değiştirmiş bir terörist olarak ABD için tehdit olduğunu ispat etmesi hiç de kolay olmayacaktır.
Bu sırada Brody, evinde bir kahraman olarak karşılarnır; ancak esir olduğu yıllar boyunca yaşadıklarının onu ne kadar olumsuz etkilediği de açıkça görülmektedir. Fiziksel olarak yaralanmış, psikolojik olarak yıpranmıştır. Artık eşi ve çocukları için adeta bir yabancıdır.
