Özet: During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers.


Soğuk Savaş sırasında James B. Donovan adındaki avukat CIA tarafından işe alınmıştır. Avukat gergin bir müzakere görevine dâhil olup Sovyetler Birliği tarafından uçağı düşürüldükten sonra tutuklanan U-2 casus uçak pilotu Francis G. Powers'in Birleşik Devletler'de casusluk suçuyla tutuklu bulunan KGB istihbarat ajanı Rudolf Abel ile takas edilerek serbest kalması için çalışmaya başlar. Film, 1960 yılında gerçekleşen U-2 krizini anlatmaktadır.
