Özet: Dizide, bir terör saldırısı sonucu ABD hükümeti devrilmiş, başkan ve kongre üyeleri öldürülmüş, yönetime radikal bir grup tarafından el konulmuştur. Kadınların haklarının elinden alındığı bu dönemde bulaşıcı ve cinsel hastalıklar yüzünden doğurganlık önemli oranda azalmıştır. Offred (Elisabeth Moss) o dönemde doğurgan olarak kalabilen nadir kadınlardan biridir ve komutan Fred Waterford'un (Joseph Fiennes) evinde çalışmaktadır. Kocası ve kızı ile Kanada'ya kaçmaya çalışırken kocasını kaybetmiş, kızı elinden alınmıştır. Kendisi ise yüksek rütbeli komutanlara çocuk doğurması için verilmiştir. Offred bu baskıcı rejim altında hem hayatta kalmaya çalışacak hem de elinden alınan kızını arayacaktır. Strahovski ise dizide komutan Fred Waterford'un eşi "Serena" karakterini canlandıracaktır.
